BEHAVIOURAL ECONOMICS

 

Determining the effects of a wide range of factors such as psychological, emotional, cognitive and social factors that affect the economic decisions of individuals, households and organisations.

Examples of the types of research include:

  • Identifying the factors that stop people from obtaining private health insurance in Australia and determining what changes to these factors will result in increased uptake
  • Identifying and investigating the factors that customers consider when making the decision in choosing a financial services provider for retirement savings in Australia
  • Determining the main factors that customers consider to be barriers to purchase with life insurance in Hong Kong, Malaysia and Singapore and investigating how these factors can be overcome through modifying product attributes

SOCIOECONOMIC

 

Investigating the relationship between changes in the economy and it's effects on society, at local, state and national levels, typically undertaken for government and not-for-profit organisations.

Examples of the types of research include:

  • Investigating the impact of change to a specific segment of the population through changes to social welfare in New Zealand
  • Determining the likely affect to residents in an Australian regional city as a consequence of closing an abattoir, the largest employer in the city

ECONOMIC INDICATOR

 

Providing government, business and not-for-profit organisations with leading, lagging and coincident economic indicators.

Examples of the types of research include:

  • Obtaining the number of building permits and new construction activity each quarter as a leading economic indicator in Vietnam
  • Determining the unemployment rate, both overall at a national level and at local provincial government level, as a lagging economic indicator in Myanmar

CONSUMER CONFIDENCE

 

Research for government, business and not-for-profit organisations, conducted amongst a representative sample of a population, to measure the degree of optimism that consumers feel about the overall state of the economy and their personal financial situation.

Examples of the types of research include:

  • Weekly survey of a representative sample of 250 people in Malaysia, providing a monthly rolling average of 1,000 interviews as part of a monthly consumer confidence index
  • Monthly survey of a representative sample of 2,000 Indonesian's, as part of an on-going consumer confidence index
  • Quarterly survey of a representative sample of 1,000 Australians concerning their current and forecast financial situation

BUSINESS CONFIDENCE

 

Research for government, business and not-for-profit organisations, conducted amongst a representative sample of businesses, to measure the degree of optimism that business feel about the overall state of the economy and their own financial situation. 

Examples of the types of research include:

  • Monthly survey of a representative sample of 1,000 businesses across China, providing a quarterly rolling average of 4,000 interviews as part of a business confidence index
  • Monthly survey of a representative sample of 1,000 businesses across Vietnam, providing a monthly business confidence index
  • Quarterly survey of a representative sample of 1,000 farmers/agribusinesses across Australia, providing detailed insight into the agribusiness industry sector
